Interview
by Pablo Mañe carried out exclusively for Stylusart.
In
the Catalonian countryside there´s a plot of land where two great Danes
live, one is black and the other is grey. There is an old wooden cart.
In the background a door opens and somebody appears with blue hair. This
could be the beginning of a fairytale but it isn´t. It´s the
beginning of our interview with Conxi Puig. How
has your work evolved? I
began in the field of academic figurative painting. Later on I felt the
need to develope a very expressionist oeuvre in themes and especially in chromatism.
At present my oeuvres are essencially abstract and when I include natural elements
they have a anecdote value. I also use many words. A wide range of
my paintings are born from a poem or phrase. Is
that your main starting point for your present work? In
a way, yes. There are poems that after reading them or writing them if I
am the author suggest oeuvres in such a strong way that in that moment I can see
them finished. You
know a lot about materials which belong to handicraft. How are they shown in your
oeuvres? From
that period I have learnt a lot about materials which are not frequent in art
or just unknown. I add tin, broken glass from cars or spray from lightbulbs. You´ve
worked quite a lot as a portrait painter, when is a portrait finished? You
always have this feeling that maybe there is something more which you can add
to bring it closer to the model, so I suppose it´s when it´s hanging
on the wall. Do
you think it is better not to talk about your academic years? Of
course not, my work with nudes or other themes have given me a preparation which
now I find essencial. I think that an artist who paints that doesn´t
know the academic techniques will most probably be able to produce an excellent
oeuvre but it might weaken its consistance. You
tend to confine to the different colours different emocional burdens. A
year ago I painted two paintings, one called "Intimidad" and the "Sensualidad".
The first one I did it with blues and the second with reds. I am quite conditioned
about how you feel at the moment. I absolutely love greens and ochres. You´ve
mentioned that you have collaborated on some books. Yes,
I really like working with writters especially poets. I am drawn by the
idea of sharing with the reader the feelings that have been awoken by the poems. What
do you think about Art and Internet? Internet is a good tool for
both the person who wants to get his work known or by the person who receives
it. It is a unique opportunity to get your work known. What
do you think about Stylusart? I
have been a reader of the magazine for some time now. And it´s an
excellent showcase that´s why I invite all those who read the interview
to have a look at my work. What
do you think about ORIGINAL SOLIDARITY? An
artist had already told me about it sometime ago and I find it very interesting.
I hope to be able to take part in the next edition. ©
